I felt physically tired and emotionally drained hence didn’t make any effort to try and hasten my walking steps to get home quicker.
Having Daniel by my side provided some sort of comfort but after the conversation we had a few moments ago, he completely shut me out. It’s not like I wanted to discuss what happened with him he might just laugh it up in my face but still, it would’ve been nice to talk to him.
We were approaching my house fast and still not a word from him.
“Did I say something wrong?”
I ask breaking the hard ice. He took a glance at me before shaking his head in negation.
“No, you did not. I’m just thinking about something.”
He finally adds after a few seconds noticing my glum look.
I nodded my head acting like I understood but he only got me even more confused.
“What happened to you. Why were you alone back there?”
I gulped looking away.
“It’s something and you know it so tell me.”
I choked on his name sniffling lightly.
“What did that bastard do.”
Daniel thundered in rage. I jumped slightly at his tone, a little startled. If he was my bodyguard I might feel he’s just trying to do his job but since he’s not, I can’t help but feel a little happy, special even.
“He didn’t do anything. It’s all my fault. I didn’t read the signs early, I let him use me as he wished. I just made a big fool of my self just for him and at the end of the day, I realised I don’t even love him.”
Tears trickled down my cheeks. We had stopped walking now and Daniel stood in front of me raising my chin up to stare at him.
“You made a mistake. Everyone makes mistake Ariel. In this situation, you need to learn to forgive yourself just like you need to learn to forgive others.”
I felt a little perplexed at the last part wondering why I needed to forgive anyone at this point.
“Just forgive yourself. It’s happen already and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
I nodded my head and a sense of warmth filled me.
“Thank you Daniel. It means a lot.”
“And Ariel…it’s not safe to go out like this I told you to be careful. If I’m caught with you like this they might even get suspicious.”
“I’ll be careful, I promise.”
When we turned around, we had reached my house.
“I guess this is goodbye. When will I see you again?”
I ask not caring if I sounded clingy or needy.
“I don’t know.”
He responded truthfully.
I replied sadly.
“But I promise it’ll be soon.”
He leaned in and pecked my cheeks. My face dropped in disappointment. I actually wanted a kiss or something.
I baded him with a smile and went inside.
The moment she disappeared inside, all her words rang in my ears. The longer I hide the truth from her, the longer I ruin the chances of ever having anything with her. Granted she said it wouldn’t even make a difference.
Still, it meant there was no hope of ever making things okay between us. Do I keep living this life? Hiding the truth and hoping for the best or do I throw caution in the wind and tell her damning all consequences?
I had no idea what to do at all.
If you were in Daniel’s place what would you do?
There’s still an imminent threat. Have we seen the last of Shawn. Read on. Find out❤️
